Distance/Hybird Learning
During the 2020-21 school year of distance learning our fourth grade team has created asynchronous lessons, assignments on our division's platform (Schoology), created virtual interactive lessons and activities, etc. We continued to create interactive lessons for the students when we eventually went into hybrid learning. We require 45 minutes of i-Ready Reading and Math individually on a weekly basis. This website gives diagnostic assessments to our students and shows their growth over the school year. It also gives the students their individual lessons that are accommodated to their learning level. It is one of our main virtual tools that the whole school division uses to assess growth throughout the school year. Below I have examples of what I have created during this school year.
During the 2019-20 school year of distance learning our fourth grade team created PowerPoint lessons for our students. These PowerPoint lessons have sound attached to them. For each slide our students had a teacher explaining to them exactly what they were to do and everything they should know about this topic. On these PowerPoint lessons we put activities, evaluations, and step by step instructions. For reading and math our students worked on "i-Ready" which is a digital tool we use for accommodating to our students. This website gives diagnostic assessments to our students and shows their growth over the school year. It gives our students lessons, activities, and assessments on their grade level. They were to have 45 minutes for each subject a week during the school year, which became a great tool for us to use during distance learning. In addition to the lessons I made for my students I also had office hours where they could go on zoom and meet with me individually about any questions they had. I also had a weekly zoom meeting with them and we talked about how the week was going and if they had any questions. We also did a new activity each week in our meetings.
During the first two to three weeks of distance learning we sent home choice boards for our students along with these choice boards once we got the final word to create them for our students. We had them posted on the school website for our student to easily access them. Along with these choice boards we had assignments they could complete in the designated folders. These assignments were options on their choice boards. On these choice boards we gave the students fun websites to visit to complete online activities. We gave them options for our programs that included i-Ready, RAZ Kids, and Read 180.
In addition to the required distance learning materials we were to provide, I also provided extra materials to my students. I had some students who had a hard time doing i-Ready every week or completing the PowerPoint lessons, so I sent them different learning materials in order for them to learn the same information that we were to learn that week in our lessons. I would send videos, nearpods, interactive games, etc. I have examples below of what I would send to these students.
Along with this video I assigned these students a video, quiz, activity, and challenge on BrainPop.
